We will provide all necessities for you and your baby, but you can also bring your own items to be more comfortable. For example: your own clothing, toiletries, a pillow, blanket, small fan, phone charger, etc.
We want you to feel supported during labor. You may choose to labor with or without any pain medicine. Your nurse will be able to help you with comfort options. Anesthesia coverage is available 24/7. Some items are provided at the hospital for labor coping, like a birth ball, peanut ball, TENS unit, warm shower, and aromatherapy.
If you have a C-Section, you can have one support person with you in the Operating Room.
Your support person will have a sofa bed in your Labor & Delivery room. After birth, you will all move to a Postpartum room. Your support person will have a recliner to sleep in the Postpartum room. You’ll typically stay in the hospital 2 nights after a vaginal birth, or 3 nights after a Cesarean birth. You and your baby will stay in the same room together during your entire hospital stay.
A Duke Pediatrician will see your baby while you’re in the hospital. We will help you make an appointment with the Pediatrician of your choice before you leave the hospital.
